Horizontal Vs Vertical Juicers

Vertical and Horizontal doesn't just refer to the shape of the juicer but to the actual juicing mechanism inside, making it more important than you think. Knowing the different benefits and limitations of each style of juicer could be crucial when deciding which juicer to purchase. This blog will cover everything you need to know about the two styles to make your decision and juicing journey as easy as possible.

Horizontal Vs Vertical Juicers

Introduction

Vertical and Horizontal doesn't just refer to the shape of the juicer but to the actual juicing mechanism inside, making it more important than you think. Knowing the different benefits and limitations of each style of juicer could be crucial when deciding which juicer to purchase. This blog will cover everything you need to know about the two styles to make your decision and juicing journey as easy as possible.

Design Differences

Although the most important difference between the two styles is the juicer mechanism, horizontal juicers do follow a similar design to each other which is longer horizontally than vertically as opposed to vertical juicers which unsurprisingly are taller and takes up less countertop space than horizontal juicers.

Performance Differences

Although the most important difference between the two styles is the juicer mechanism, horizontal juicers do follow a similar design to each other which is longer horizontally than vertically as opposed to vertical juicers which unsurprisingly are taller and takes up less countertop space than horizontal juicers.

Horizontal Juicer

Strengths:

  • Leafy Greens
  • Hard Fruits
  • Celery
  • Root Vegetables

Weaknesses:

  • Softer Ingredients
  • User Experience eg: produce needs preparing and feeding in

Most Horizontal juicers have more accessories and attachments (eg: oil extractors) and can handle leafy greens and root vegetables better than vertical juicers. However, they do not have as many user experience optimisations as they are more focused on performance. Vertical juicers focus more on user experience and ease of use, that's not to say that vertical juicers do not perform well, most new vertical juicers are very close in performance to horizontal juicers in almost every aspect of juicing.

Vertical Juicer

Strengths:

  • Softer and Hard Ingredients
  • Ease Of Use Features eg: Wide-Feed Shoot, Self-Feeding, Easy Clean
  • Root Vegetables

Weaknesses:

  • Leafy Greens / Celery (On Its Own)

Conclusion

Overall, both styles of juicer have their pros and cons. If you're after a better user experience with a great juice yield and a small countertop footprint then a vertical juicer would be ideal. New vertical juicers like the Hurom H400, H300 H200 and H310 utilise a self-feeding hopper and make it even easier to juice a variety of ingredients since you do not need to prep them as you would with a horizontal juicer. However, horizontal juicers generate an unbeatable yield with some important ingredients like celery, kale, spinach and also fibrous ingredients like ginger. So if you want a great performing juicer that has less user-friendly features but is a superior yield, then a horizontal juicer like the Hurom DU is the way to go.
