Does the Nama J2 Live up to the Hype?

Introduction

There is a good case for the Nama J2 being one of the best-known juicers in the world right now, enjoying wide acclaim, particuarly on social media However, many modern products are now just a result of their marketing, rather than their actual quality. So let’s see if it’s worthy of its popularity.

What Makes The Nama J2 Special?

Let’s start by exploring the features that have made the Nama J2 so well-known in the juicing community.

First and foremost, the Nama J2 is a self-feeding juicer. This means ingredients placed in the chamber atop the unit are automatically juiced once turned on, requiring no supervision for a convenient experience. This time-saving feature places the heavy lifting on the juicer, meaning you don’t have to spend valuable time individually feeding ingredients.

The Nama J2 is manufactured to a great standard using a variety of high-quality, BPA-free plastics and includes a decent selection of accessories. Aside from its self-feeding technology the Nama J2 doesn’t stand out as groundbreaking. It’s a solid cold press juicer, but perhaps not as exceptional as some might suggest.

How Does It Compare?

Based on features alone, it’s clear that the Nama J2 is a good juicer. The self-feeding technology saves time and effort and the cold press juicing mechanism helps minimise heat buildup and oxidation, preserving nutrients.

The Nama J2 certainly isn’t the first self-feeding juicer. Hurom, the brand that manufactures the J2 for Nama, has been creating them since 2018. So for a quality comparison, we will compare the Nama J2 against one of its closest peers, the Hurom H400.

Nama J2

Strengths:

  • Self-Feeding
  • Quality Construction
  • Juice Yields / Quality
  • 15-Year Motor and Part Warranty

Weaknesses:

  • Long Clean Up
  • Standard Mesh Augur is Quickly Clogged by Leafy Greens

The Hurom H400 uses a dual augur mechanism that maximises yield. The augur contains slits which provide ultimate precision in juice texture across a variety of ingredients and allows for much less pulp in the juice. The two-part augur is made of durable, BPA-free plastics that can withstand various ingredients from fruits and vegetables to leafy greens. The Nama J2 however is screen-based, which makes clean up a lot more time-intensive. Users must disassemble and thoroughly wash several components, requiring significantly more effort than a dual augur. A standard mesh augur has been used in the J2 meaning leafy greens will quickly clog up the mesh and impact your juicing experience.

One of the unforeseen problems people tend to have with juicers is the cleanup. Hard-to-clean juicers diminish the likelihood of regular use, meaning many people miss out on the potential health benefits of regular juicing. This isn’t a problem with the Hurom H400. It is far easier and faster to clean, taking almost half the time the Nama J2 takes thanks to its scrub-free design, making post-juicing cleanup a breeze. Simply run the parts under water and watch the pulp and juice run straight off, while the included cleaning brush means any tough-to-clean produce isn’t so tough anymore.

Hurom H400

Strengths:

  • Self-Feeding
  • Quality Construction
  • Juice Yields / Quality
  • "Scrub-Free" Clean Up
  • Compact Design
  • 10-Year Motor Warranty

Weaknesses:

  • 5 -Year Part Warranty

The Nama J2 has great juicing performance and outputs quality juice in good yields. The Hurom H400 matches this performance, quality, and yields and offers more up-to-date technology than the J2, such as the dual augur mechanism and scrub-free design. The H400 also boasts a compact and sleek design, beating the J2 in aesthetics.

The Nama J2 holds a motor and part warranty that covers a staggering 15 years, while the Hurom H400 holds a 10-year motor and 5-year functional part warranty. Although the J2 warranty is longer, both have very respectable warranty periods.

Is It The Best Option?

To cut straight to the point, no. We have found that the Nama J2 isn’t the best option, at least not compared to other quality self-feeding juicers. But does that mean it’s bad? Certainly not. Despite other juicers proving better, the Nama J2 is not a bad juicer and if you’ve already purchased one you shouldn’t worry.

The Hurom H400 offers several advantageous features over the Nama J2, such as scrub-free cleanup, a dual augur mechanism, and aesthetic design, all excellent reasons to consider the Hurom H400 for your next Self-Feeding, Cold Press Juicer.

If you’d like to get more bang for your buck, we wholeheartedly recommend the Hurom H400; a phenomenal juicer that offers the same quality with some added benefits.
